Edgecomb Potters

Edgecomb, ME

Edgecomb Potters, the birthplace of Maine Pottery Company, was founded by Chris and Richard Hilton. They initially crafted pots in their Boston basement before discovering an 1882 one-room schoolhouse on Route 27 in Edgecomb. This location lacked essential amenities like running water and heat, and showers were available at the YMCA, which was a twenty-minute drive away. Their passion and hard work led to the development of hundreds of glazes, with his signature glazes gaining national recognition. Today, our original location has transformed into a new Artist Collective, providing a platform for aspiring artists to embark on their creative journeys, much like Chris and Richard Hilton did.
