A gallery, not a mall
handmade in Maine since 1976...
What started as a small pottery studio on Route 27 in Edgecomb, Maine has grown into something we never could have imagined. For over 50 years, we've been a home for artists who make things by hand. Not because it's trendy, but because it's who they are.
Today, Maine Pottery Co. is a gallery and artist collective representing the work of hundreds of makers from Maine and New England. Every mug, necklace, painting, and sculpture in our galleries was made by someone whose name we know and whose work we believe in. Our artists aren't our tenants. They're our partners.
We have three locations: our gallery shops in Portland and Portsmouth, and the Artist Collective at the original red schoolhouse in Edgecomb. Each one feels like walking into someone's studio, because in a way, it is.
THE BEGINNING
A Red Schoolhouse on Route 27
The gallery opens in a converted one-room schoolhouse in Edgecomb, Maine. What starts as a small pottery studio quickly becomes a gathering place for local artisans looking for somewhere to share their craft with the world.
GROWING ROOTS
Generations of Craft
The gallery expands beyond pottery to include jewelry, glass, wood, metalwork, and fine art. A family tradition takes shape as the next generation steps in, carrying forward the same philosophy: artists first, always.
NEW CHAPTERS
Portland, Portsmouth & Beyond
Maine Pottery Co. opens two new locations: a Portland gallery on Commercial Street and a Portsmouth, NH space. The name evolves to reflect what we've become: not just pottery, but a home for all handmade craft from across New England.
THE COLLECTIVE
Artists as Partners
We launch the Maine Pottery Collective, a new model where artists aren't just vendors, they're co-owners of this community. Transparent pricing, fair splits, and a shared mission to keep craft alive in New England for the next 50 years.
