Maine Pottery Co. Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 23, 2026

We're a pottery shop and art gallery in Maine — not a data company. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do (and don't do) with it. We wrote it in plain English because nobody should need a lawyer to understand how a pottery shop handles their email address.

The short version

We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We use it to ship your pottery, send you emails you asked for, and keep our shop running. That's it.

Do you sell my data?

No. We have never sold customer data. We will never sell customer data. Not to data brokers, not to advertisers, not to anyone. Full stop.

What do you collect?

Here's what we gather and why:

When you buy something (online or in-store): - Your name, email, shipping address, and phone number — so we can get your order to you - Your order history — so we can help if something arrives broken or you want to reorder - Payment information — this is processed by Shopify and Stripe; we never see or store your credit card number

When you sign up for our email list: - Your name and email address — because that's how email works - Our list is opt-in only. We don't add you unless you ask.

When you visit our website: - Basic analytics data (pages viewed, browser type, general location) — this helps us understand if our website is working or if everyone is bouncing off the homepage - Cookies — mostly for keeping your cart intact and basic site functionality

If you're a consignment artist using our Artist Hub: - Your contact info, tax details, and sales data — because we need to pay you and report to the IRS

What do you use it for?

  • Fulfilling orders — packing, shipping, sending tracking numbers
  • Email marketing — occasional newsletters about new artists, events, and pottery. Only if you opted in. Unsubscribe anytime.
  • Running the shop — inventory, accounting, customer service, the boring-but-necessary stuff
  • Improving our website — understanding what pages people visit so we can make the site less confusing
  • Artist payments — tracking sales and processing payouts for our consignment artists

That's the whole list. We're not building profiles on you or feeding your data into some algorithm.

Who else sees my data?

We work with a few services to keep things running. They get access to the minimum they need to do their job:

  • Shopify — hosts our online store and processes orders
  • Stripe — processes payments for artist rent and payouts
  • Brevo — sends our marketing emails
  • Google Analytics — tells us how many people visited the website (we use anonymized/aggregated data where possible)

These companies have their own privacy policies and obligations. We don't give them permission to use your data for their own marketing.

We will also share information if we're legally required to — like a court order or tax reporting. But that's never happened, and we hope it stays that way.

What about cookies?

Our website uses cookies for:

  • Keeping your shopping cart working — essential, can't really turn these off without breaking things
  • Remembering you're logged in — so you don't have to sign in on every page
  • Analytics — understanding site traffic in aggregate

We don't use cookies for targeted advertising or cross-site tracking. If you want to block cookies, your browser settings can handle that — just know your cart might not work properly.

We respect Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. If your browser sends one, we'll honor it.

Can I see what you have on me?

Yes. Email us at info@mainepottery.com and we'll tell you what we've got. This applies whether you're in California, the EU, or anywhere else.

Can I delete my info?

Yes. Same email: info@mainepottery.com. We'll delete your personal data, with a couple of common-sense exceptions:

  • We may need to keep order records for tax and legal purposes
  • If you're an artist with outstanding payouts, we need to keep your info until that's settled

We'll never hold your data hostage or make deletion difficult. Ask and we'll take care of it.

Can I opt out of emails?

Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it and you're done — no guilt trip, no "are you sure?" screens. You'll still get transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates) because those aren't marketing.

Do you do anything with kids' data?

No. Our website and services are not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from minors. If you think we've accidentally collected info from a child, let us know and we'll delete it immediately.

What about California and European privacy rights?

If you're in California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of data sales. Since we don't sell data, that last one is already covered. We won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

If you're in the EU/UK (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing your data is either (a) we need it to fulfill your order (contract), (b) you gave us permission (consent, like signing up for emails), or (c) we have a legitimate business interest (like basic analytics). You have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data. You can also object to processing or withdraw consent at any time.

If you're anywhere else: We'll treat your data with the same respect regardless of where you live.

Will this policy change?

Maybe, if we add a new tool or something changes about how we operate. If we make meaningful changes, we'll note it here with an updated date. We won't suddenly start selling your data — that would be a weird move for a pottery shop.
