Everything you need to know about ordering, shipping, and visiting

Most of what we carry is handmade in small batches by artists we know personally: potters, jewelers, woodworkers, painters, and more. Some of our glassware is crafted internationally (though never mass-produced from China), and we also carry a curated mix of useful and delightful items at every price point, because we believe beautiful, well-made things should be accessible to everyone.

We do! We ship everywhere in the US. Orders over $400 ship free. Everything is carefully wrapped and packed by our team to make sure your handmade pieces arrive safely. View our full shipping policy.

We offer a 30-day return policy on all items in their original condition. If something arrives damaged, please reach out immediately and we'll make it right. Because many pieces are one-of-a-kind, exchanges depend on availability. View our full return policy.

Email info@mainepottery.com with a photo of the piece and the box within 7 days. We'll either replace it (if it's still in inventory) or refund you in full -- your call. Keep the packaging if you can; it helps us figure out where in the chain things went sideways so it doesn't happen to the next person.

Many of our artists accept custom commissions. Contact us with what you have in mind and we'll connect you directly with the right maker. Timelines and pricing vary by artist and project.

Portland and Portsmouth are open 10am to 5pm, every day. Our Edgecomb gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm, and closes for January and February. Check our Visit page for directions and current hours at each location.

Yep -- at all three. Pick "in-gallery pickup" at checkout, choose Edgecomb, Portland, or Portsmouth, and we'll email you when it's ready (usually a day or two; sooner if the piece is already at that gallery). Bring your order number and we'll meet you at the counter.

Depends on where you're standing. Shop in person at our Edgecomb or Portland galleries (both in Maine) and Maine sales tax applies at the register. Shop in person at Portsmouth -- New Hampshire, no state sales tax, so the sticker price is what you pay. And every online order, no matter where it ships, leaves here tax-free.

We do -- digital gift cards in any amount, sold right here on mainepottery.com. They're redeemable anywhere we ring up a sale: online, or in person at Edgecomb, Portland, or Portsmouth. The recipient gets the code by email; they can use it all at once or chip away at it over time.

Not yet. Right now we only ship within the US. If you're abroad and you've fallen in love with something, email us -- we can occasionally arrange a workaround if you're patient and flexible.

We're a retail Collective, not a wholesaler -- but a handful of our artists do their own wholesale, and we're happy to make an intro. Email info@mainepottery.com with what you're looking for and the artist(s) that caught your eye, and we'll connect you.

Because they were made by different hands. Every artist sets their own prices based on their materials, their process, and their time. Two mugs that look alike might take a wildly different number of hours to make -- one's a fast-thrown stoneware piece, the other might be hand-built and fired three times. We don't negotiate that down; the artist gets paid for what the piece actually took.

We're always looking for talented New England artisans to join our Artist Collective. Visit artists.mainepottery.com/apply to learn more and submit an application.

Yes! You can ship directly to the recipient and we never include pricing information in shipments. At checkout you can add our brand-matched gift wrap and a personal note, and every item is carefully packed to arrive safely.
